Guelphite Samson Wrote performs acoustic-based experimental folk-rock that swings from quiet confidences to full-bodied roars. He shares stories of intimate moments, always rooted in the human voice, while incorporating such diverse instruments as the synthesizer, snare drum, glockenspiel, recorders, and the acoustic guitar. Having released an EP of original music, as well as a couple zany Christmas EPs, the Samson Wrote debut LP will be released in 2018.

Samson Wrote is Sam Boer, an unorthodox multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter from Guelph, Ontario. He performs acoustic-based experimental folk-rock that swings from quiet confidences to full-bodied roars. During a live performance, the whole family’s onstage: guitar, synthesizer, snare drum, glockenspiel, recorders of all shapes and sizes–yet it all remains grounded by Sam’s voice. Thought-provoking lyrics, precise guitar arrangements, and looped harmonies centre these songs and give audiences something to talk about long after the show has ended.

Listeners and concertgoers have described Samson Wrote as “gruff yet life-affirming”, “bold and passionate”, “playful” and “energetic”, with “honest, vivid lyrics that pour out of every inch of his body”.  His latest original EP Crossed Legs, was released in January 2016, and he has released two Christmas albums for some reason: O Christmas Beet and Joy To The Squirrels (samsonwrote.bandcamp.com).

Thought-provoking lyrics, precise guitar arrangements, and looped harmonies centre these songs and give audiences something to talk about long after the show has ended.

Sam has performed in venues around Ontario since 2012, from Guelph to London to Morrisburg. Listeners and concertgoers have described Samson Wrote as “gruff yet life-affirming”, “bold and passionate”, “playful” and “energetic”, with “honest, vivid lyrics that pour out of every inch of his body”.

Sam’s unique performance experience won him the 2015 Folk-Off competition at Western University, which awarded him the opportunity to enter CHRW Radio’s studios with a variety of talented Guelphites. Together, they recorded Sam’s first full-band EP, Crossed Legs (2016), which received widespread airplay from local campus radio stations (attaining the #1 spot on London’s Earshot Radio Rankings in April 2016 and appearing repeatedly on local CBC programmes). Later that year, Sam Boer released his first self-produced Christmas EP, O Christmas Beet, which featured both covers and original holiday songs. He has since released another Christmas EP for some reason, entitled Joy to the Squirrels (samsonwrote.bandcamp.com).

In addition to writing, performing, and recording as Samson Wrote, Sam has written for and performed with Bedsheets, a Guelph folk-rock collective that played nearly every local venue possible including the renowned Hillside Festival. Sam also currently drums and sings for The Lifers, a sister-harmony art-folk duo, who have toured Canada upon releasing their acclaimed debut LP, “Out and In,” in 2016.
